Greeting from the Prez – June 2009
Despite the outside temperature it is mid June and the racing season is already three weekends old. The Rhodes fleet has had the largest and most consistent turnout for all the races so far with over 10 boats in all the MRA races to date. Well ahead of the other fleets in the harbor.
Fleet Fourth of July Party:
As he has for more years than anyone wants to count, John Casler will host Fleet 5’s annual Fourth of July cookout. With the Fourth actually falling on Saturday this year, as an extra added attraction the cookout will be followed by Marblehead’s fireworks display for those who want to stroll down to the harbor for a vantage point. With no racing that day, the cookout will start at 5:30pm. The fleet will provide steaks, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, chips and dips and the fleet bar. You supply attendance and if a few folks RSVP with a desert item the table will be set. Please RSVP to fleet Social Chair Jim Raisides at 781-639-1602 or jraisides@tarealty.com.
Racing Results:
Congratulations to Kim and Christina Pandapas for their first place finish in the Spring Series held over Memorial Day weekend. Steve Uhl finished in second place and Nick Cann was third. MRA Series One through June 6th was tied between Doug Trees and Chris Small and Kim and Christina.
Fleet Meeting:
Here is a summary of the items discussed and voted on at the Fleet meeting party back on May 1st. Fleet 5 will grant a floating or personal bye for use in either Series 1 or 3 as outlined in the 2009 MRA NOR. To encourage participation at the class East Coast Championship, the Fleet agreed to not score Series 2 in the Fleet and MRA season championship. Fleet members who sail Series 2 will be scored for results in that series as a stand-alone event. We also voted to exclude out of town boats when scoring the results of Marblehead Raceweek for our seasonal championship.
