*Road To The Cup – Week 7 – Independence Day Edition*
*Top-10 as of 7/4/15*
Not a lot to report this week with no MRA racing. There was a Twilight
race on Thursday night, which is reported to us this week by *Steve Uhl*.
Poor Steve was forced to rush over late to CYC for Twilights after
babysitting me though my traumatic first day sailing a full rig on the
laser – in all of 7-8 knots of air. For the record, after five attempts,
I’m slowly working my way up to really terrible. ‘Plenty of room for
improvement’ is another way I’d describe it. Steve, of course, was
gracious and generously refused to laugh (at least within earshot).
Anyway, Steve reports that six boats showed up to enjoy a beautiful evening
marred only by a dying westerly that ultimately turned into a classic
mid-summer drifter. The course was out to Cat Island against the current,
which in light air can be a grind. The combination of current and light
patchy wind resulted in a spread-out fleet. *Rob Ferro*, joined by wife *Jen
Jewell* and sister *Andrea *(who used to race in Marblehead years ago)
sailed a great race. They rounded the first mark just in front of *Steve
Uhl* (sailing I believe with *Maura Power*) and despite a lot of lead
changes, managed to hold on. Rob finished 1st, just in front of Steve in 2
nd, and *Ann Sousa *(sailing *Sara Sheldon’s *boat*)* took 3rd. Worth
mentioning is that *Joe Fava* made his Twilight debut sailing with his
young son *Ben Fava*. How awesome is that?
So in Cup competition, the scores changed by only the Twilight scores,
which is 2 points for *Steve Uhl* , 5 points for *Joe Fava* and 7 points
for everyone else. I’m going out on a limb and attempting those
calculations without the aid of technology or the supervision of the
scorer. That could be an adventure as my math skills aren’t a lot better
than my laser skills, but I’m chancing it, with apologies in advance for
any mistakes.

Week 8 racing will include the Twilight race on Thursday night and the 2-3
races of MRA Series 2 Day 2 this Saturday, which is one of the remaining
two Saturday race days before the big event. A final reminder that the
registration fee for NOOD is included in your MRA fees, but you still have
to register, which you can do online at
www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=1232.
Also, another reminder that if you have changed anything on your boat since
your last measuring, or if you have never been measured, *your boat needs
to be measured*. Please email measurer *Josh Wheeler* at
joshua.wheeler@gmail.com to coordinate a time. -kp
