Road To The Cup – Week 16

Road To The Cup – Week 16

Top-10 as of 9/11/16

The Fall Series kicked off under overcast skies and a light easterly as some pre-frontal crud spent most of the day parked over our heads.  It finally cleared out around 4pm with a freshening breeze, but by then the boats were heading in.  So a light easterly with flat water and current was the order of the day.  Turnout was generally light with six Etchells, four Vipers, three Rhodes, two J70s and an IOD.  The three Rhodes included Mike Lane & Yati Harsono, Team Frisch/Hourihan and Ann Souza.  The RC got in three races though our fleet stuck around for just the first two before calling it a day.  Race 1 was a more than an hour-long slog in very light conditions, though in race 2 the breeze freshened a bit.

Congratulations to Mike Lane & Yati Harsono who won the day on a tiebreaker with 2-1 for 3 points.  Taking 2nd with 1-2, also for 3 points was Team Frisch/Hourihan.  And taking 3rd was Ann Souza with a 3-3 for 6 points.  Well done all.

In Cup competition, there were no position changes, and with turnout this light, few are expected.  The one likely change is that with 982 parked in the driveway, Mike Lane should move up to 4th before it’s done.  The top-10 are listed below.

There will be no Fall Series racing next weekend as sailors and RCs focus on the 2v2.  The Fall Series will continue with Day 2 in two weeks on September 24th.  So with no racing, there will be no Week 17 edition of the Road To The Cup next week.

John Casler wrote in with a suggestion for next year.  “Just a thought.  Once the Twilights stop, we could race three or four September Sundays.  It seems like it’s an easy opportunity for a little more racing, but only if there is interest.”  Please let us know if you have an opinion about this one.
