2013 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2013 Rhodes 19 National Championship was held in October in New Orleans at the new Southern Yacht Club. This was the first time that the regatta has been held at the club since Hurricane Katrina. Fleet 5’s own Charlie Pendleton, Elise Mazareas and Renee Heffernan emerged as the winners! This was a brutal regatta with a variety of challenging conditions ranging from very light and lumpy to less light and lumpy. Local knowledge was at a premium. Congratulations to team Bight Me! The results can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/r19-nationals.
Congratulations to Joe and Marisa Fava!
They recently welcomed home a baby girl, Annabel. She had the good sense to wait until after the racing season was over!
SHOP WATCH
Karen and Bruce Brock have Rick Hamill’s old boat Tigger in the shop for a rib job and keel work. With any luck we will see them out at Tinker’s line this season.
Sarah Sheldon from the Sonar fleet has bought the Economides boat from Winthrop. She plans on racing this year.
Peter Sorlien has been resurrecting an ancient O’Day with a sail number I think in the single digits. In spite of his enthusiasm for the job, he is thinking about jumping on the composite keel bandwagon.
GETTING DOWN IN DOVER
Bill and national champion Renee Heffernan hosted the winter party January 25th at their beautiful home in Dover. Thanks to Mike Nash, the fleet bar was ready! Renee led a billiards tournament eventually won by Lisa McNamara and Mike Lane. Thank you Bill and national champion Renee!
