Greeting from the Prez – October 2014

What a phenomenal year we have had in Fleet 5! So much has happened. Fleet parties, East Coast Championships on our doorstep in Gloucester, Race Week, the National Championships nearby in Hingham, Speed Tips day with Jud Smith and of course our legendary fleet parties. On the Social side – we always start with the social side – Jane and John Casler hosted the fleet at their home for our Summer Kick-Off party on June 14th. The format and timing was a little different from years past and was met with great feedback and awesome attendance. It was great to see so many Rhodes sailors past and present and meet some new fleet members including Debbie and Chris Noble. Thank you very much to Jane and John!

BOAT MEASURING

A huge thanks goes out to Josh Wheeler and all the volunteers who helped make this tedious process go smoother and faster. Thank you to Steve Uhl, Eric Thornton, Frank McNamara, JP Zonnenberg, Seamus Hourihan, Peter Sorlien and Joe Fava. We measured 7 boats in record time including Dinner Out, TBD, Harm’s Way, Hall Pass, Marjorie Ann, David Rose and Ripple.

2014 EAST COASTS

On June 20-22, the Eastern Point Yacht Club hosted the East Coast Championships for the first time. What a terrific venue for a regatta! We hope to have many more opportunities to sail here! We had a little bit of everything during this regatta including 11 races and more than 22 starts. Rumor has it that the race committee actually ran out of shells and had to use the horn to start races. A whopping thirteen boats from Marblehead competed. Congratulations to the tops five finishers: Ben Richardson, Seamus Hourihan / Peter Frisch, Matt Hooks, Dru Slattery / Linda Epstein and Stephen Uhl.
