Rhodes 19 Class members (and friends of the class),
Greeting from your 2020 Rhodes 19 National Championship regatta committee! We thought it might make sense to check in with you and share some of our current thinking.
First, you should know that our committee has been meeting since December working to build a truly special 2020 event, both on the water and off. We’re planning three days of great racing (plus a practice race), not to mention a bunch of social events that include a classic New England lobster bake. We want to entice you to make the trek, and promise to roll out the red carpet when you get here.
As you’d suspect, this is a pretty challenging time to plan a regatta. While we desperately look forward to sailing, we’re facing a lot of uncertainty, and it’s not clear today how our season will unfold. We continue to prepare for throwing this party, but are mindful of the real possibility that we won’t be able to.
We’ve set a June 1st deadline for making that call, and promise to let you know one way or the other. If we are forced to cancel, we will regard that, not as a cancellation, but as a 12 month postponement. With your permission (and assuming we can find an open date), we would try to reschedule the event in Marblehead in August 2021.
Please feel free to reach out to either of us if you have questions, our emails are below. You’ll also find more info at the 2020 Nationals Web Site. By the way, registration is open, and it should go without saying that if we need to cancel, you’d get a full refund.
All the best,
Kim Pandapas (kpandapas@comcast.net)
